What sauna delivery involves: shipping weights from 300 to 1,400 lbs, curbside freight, lead times of 3 to 12 weeks, and a checklist for the day it arrives.

Buying a sauna online ends with a truck at your curb and a pallet that can weigh over half a ton. The listing rarely says what happens next.

This article covers the part between checkout and assembly: how saunas ship, what they weigh, how long they take, and what to have ready. For choosing a sauna, start with the home sauna buying guide.

Short answer: expect freight delivery to the curb, not to the room. Have two to four helpers, a clear path, and a finished base ready before the truck arrives.

What saunas weigh

Sauna Type Weight
Dynamic Barcelona 1-2 person infrared 250 lbs (300 lbs shipping)
Finnmark FD-4 Trinity 2-person hybrid 437 lbs
Finnmark FD-3 4-person infrared 488 lbs (536 lbs shipped)
Redwood Outdoors barrel 4-6 person barrel 900 lbs
SaunaLife Model X2 1-2 person indoor cabin 948 lbs
Golden Designs Nora 2-person outdoor hybrid 875 lbs (1,175 lbs shipped)
SaunaLife Ergo E7 4-person barrel 1,213 lbs shipping
SaunaLife Ergo E8 6-person barrel 1,345 lbs
Dundalk MiniPOD 4-person pod 1,403 lbs gross

From manufacturer and dealer listings, checked September 2026.

Here’s what the spec sheet won’t tell you. Capacity doesn’t predict weight. The 1-2 person SaunaLife X2 weighs almost twice as much as the 4-person Finnmark FD-3, because solid spruce walls weigh far more than an infrared cabin’s lighter panels.

Several listings don’t publish a weight at all, including some of the largest cabins. Ask for the shipping weight, the number of pallets or crates, and the size of the largest piece.

How it arrives

Large saunas ship by freight. You’ll see the term LTL, which stands for less-than-truckload: your pallets share a truck with other customers’ goods.

The wording on the listing tells you where the driver’s job ends.

  • Curbside. The pallets come off the truck at the end of your driveway. Health Mate lists free curbside delivery for the Enrich 2.
  • Offloading help required. Dundalk’s Georgian cabin ships by LTL freight and the listing says you need assistance offloading. In other words, bring people.
  • Professional delivery recommended. SaunaLife says this for the Ergo E7, given its 1,213 lb shipping weight.

If the listing doesn’t say, ask three questions. Does the truck have a liftgate to lower the pallet to the ground? Will the driver move it up the driveway? Is there an option to pay for delivery into the yard or room?

Lead times

Many saunas are built after you order.

Sauna Listed lead time
Almost Heaven Bridgeport 3-4 weeks
Almost Heaven Madison 6-8 weeks
Almost Heaven Salem 6-8 weeks
Dundalk Georgian Cabin 8-12 weeks

From dealer listings, checked September 2026. Lead times change with the season, so confirm before ordering.

Use the wait. It is the time to get the electrical work done and the base built. An outdoor sauna that arrives before its pad is ready sits on pallets in the rain.

Run the numbers on the path

Measure every opening between the curb and the final spot: gates, side passages, doors, stair turns, and ceiling height on the stairs. Then compare them with the largest piece, which is usually a wall panel or a bundle of staves.

For an indoor cabin, the room door is the tight point. For an outdoor sauna, it is usually the side gate. If a piece won’t fit, the options are over the fence with several people or a different route through the house.

Stairs change everything. A 900 lb cabin breaks down into panels that two people can carry, but carrying all of them down a basement stair is an afternoon’s work. Count the panels and their weights if the sauna is going below ground or upstairs.

The day it arrives

  1. Be home. Freight carriers book a window and usually call ahead.
  2. Count the pallets against the paperwork before you sign.
  3. Look for damage: crushed corners, torn wrap, broken straps. Note any on the delivery receipt and photograph it before the driver leaves.
  4. Open the boxes within a few days and check the parts list. Damage claims have deadlines.
  5. Move everything under cover the same day. Sauna wood is untreated and marks easily when wet.

My rule of thumb: don’t book the electrician’s final visit or invite the assembly crew until the pallets are counted and checked.

What to have ready

  • The base. A level concrete pad, pavers, or gravel bed for outdoor models. A hard, level floor indoors.
  • The circuit. At least roughed in, so the sauna isn’t waiting on wiring.
  • Helpers. Two for an infrared cabin. Three or four for a barrel or a solid-wood cabin.
  • Tools. A dolly or hand truck, moving straps, a utility knife, and work gloves.
  • A dry space. A garage bay or tarps for anything that can’t be assembled that day.

Budget for it

Shipping is sometimes included and sometimes quoted at checkout. Liftgate service, delivery beyond the curb, and assembly are often separate charges. Ask for all of them in writing with the cabin price, so you can compare dealers on the total. To see how three saunas compare on price and what’s included, read our home sauna comparison.

Bottom line: the truck gets the sauna to your curb. Everything after that is yours to plan, and the wait gives you time to do it.
