Short answer: the Ergo E8 is a 6-person Thermo-Spruce barrel with 6 ft 5 in of interior height for $5,990. The price does not include a heater. Add a heater and its circuit or chimney before you compare it with anything else.
What size heater does it need?
The interior is 78.5” long and 77” in diameter. Treated as a full cylinder, that is about 212 cubic feet at most, and the floor and benches take some of it. Harvia rates its 6kW electric heater for 170 to 300 cubic feet, so 6kW is the size to start from. A 6kW heater draws 25A at 240V and goes on a dedicated circuit, typically 30A.
A wood-burning stove skips the electrical work but needs a chimney, clearances, and a check of local rules. Confirm the heater choice with the dealer, because the wrong size means slow heat-up or wasted money.
Where does it go?
The exterior is 87” long and 81” in diameter, so it covers about 49 sq ft. It weighs 1,345 lbs. A barrel rests on cradles, not a flat floor, so the base under those cradles has to be level and firm. Allow extra space at the door end for stepping out.
What does 6 ft 5 in of headroom mean?
Most barrels curve in close to your head on the upper bench. A 77” interior diameter gives 6 ft 5 in at the center line, which is useful if you are tall. The height drops toward the walls, as in any barrel.
What the listing leaves out
The warranty is a limited lifetime warranty, but the full terms sit in a separate PDF. Read the exclusions before you buy. The “lasts 2x longer than cedar” line is the maker’s claim for Thermo-Spruce.
You get, you give up
You get dual floor drains, Wi-Fi LED lighting, and assembly that the maker puts at about 1 day for two people. You give up an included heater.
How it compares
The smaller Ergo E7 seats 4 for $5,190. The Almost Heaven Grandview includes a heater at $6,358. See Barrel Sauna Total Cost.
