This policy explains how Haven & Plunge researches, writes, and maintains the buying guides, comparisons, and reviews on this site.

How our research process actually works

Every product page on this site goes through the same steps, in order:

1. Pull the manufacturer's own spec sheet first. Price, dimensions, power requirements, and warranty terms are sourced from the brand's official product page before any third-party listing.
2. Cross-check price and availability against at least one authorized dealer when the manufacturer doesn't publish a price directly, and we say explicitly that the figure is a dealer snapshot, not a manufacturer-quoted price.
3. Flag anything that isn't published, rather than filling the gap with an estimate — if a manufacturer doesn't state a warranty term or a chiller's horsepower, the product page says so directly, in the cons list or the body copy.
4. Set a re-verification point. Every product and guide displays a "last checked" or "updated" date, and pricing/availability in particular gets rechecked on a schedule rather than left to go stale indefinitely.

Who writes this

Content on this site is credited either to a named author, with a bio page describing their background, or to the Editorial Team. Either way, every guide and comparison is checked against the process above and theProduct Selection Methodology before publishing. If something is wrong, theContact page reaches the same team responsible for fixing it.

Independence from affiliate relationships

Our recommendations are based on our research, not on which affiliate programs pay the highest commission. We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases — see our Affiliate Disclosure — but this does not determine which products we cover or how favorably we rate them.

How we describe testing

We only describe a product as personally or hands-on tested when our editorial team has actually done so, and we say so explicitly in that content. Where an article is based on manufacturer specifications and publicly available information rather than direct testing, we say that instead. We do not fabricate testing claims, measurements, or first-person experiences.

Ratings and reviews

Star ratings and review counts shown on this site are the figures manufacturers publish on their own websites. They are manufacturer-reported, not independently verified or collected by us, and are labeled that way wherever they appear. We hide any rating based on fewer than 20 reviews, and we note when a brand publishes one rating across its whole product line rather than per model. We do not invent ratings or reviews to make a product appear more or less favorable.

Pricing and availability

Prices, discounts, and availability are set by the merchant and can change at any time. We note when a price was last checked, but always confirm current pricing on the merchant's site before purchasing.

Health and safety claims

Content about heat and cold exposure is for general informational purposes only and is not medical advice. We avoid making specific health outcome claims and recommend consulting a physician before starting a new heat or cold exposure routine.
