Short answer: the Salem is a 2-person cedar barrel with a 6kW heater included for $4,176. It is the lowest-priced heater-included barrel on this site. It suits a couple with a small yard and access to a 240V/30A circuit.
Will it fit your yard?
Assembled, it measures 78” wide, 47” deep, and 75⅜” tall. That is about 25.5 sq ft, roughly the footprint of a garden shed. Leave space in front of the door to step out and cool down.
The interior room is 75¼” x 39¼” x 69¼”. At 75¼” long (6 ft 3 in), it gives one person room to lie flat. The interior height is 69¼”, which is 5 ft 9 in at the center, so taller bathers will stoop when standing.
What does it need electrically?
The 6kW heater draws 25A at 240V and goes on a dedicated 30A circuit. The lighting uses a separate 110V/15A supply. For an outdoor sauna, most of the electrician’s bill is the cable run from your panel, so measure that distance before you ask for quotes.
At full power the heater uses 6 kWh per hour, about $1.10 at 18.34 cents per kWh. A small barrel heats quickly, so the heater spends less time at full power than it would in a larger room.
What does the warranty cover?
The cabin has a limited lifetime warranty. The Harvia heater is covered separately: 1 year on the elements and 5 years on other parts.
What to plan for
The Salem is made to order with a 6-8 week lead time. You choose a dial-controlled or Wi-Fi heater at order. Our data doesn’t state the weight, so ask the dealer before you build the base.
You get, you give up
You get 1⅜” ball-and-socket cedar staves and a heater in the price. You give up capacity. Two people is the limit, and guests wait their turn.
How it compares
The SaunaLife Ergo E7 seats 4 for $5,190 without a heater. Bottom line: for two people the Salem is the simpler buy. 2-Person Barrel Sauna checks whether this size fits your routine.
