Searching “sauna for sale” returns three very different kinds of store. They sell some of the same cabins at some of the same prices, and they are not the same experience when something arrives damaged.

This article maps the three, using the sellers behind the saunas in our catalog. One disclosure first: this site earns a commission from some of these sellers, including Select Saunas and Amazon. That doesn’t change the prices you pay. For choosing the sauna itself, start with the home sauna buying guide.

Short answer: buy from a specialist dealer or the maker when the sauna is large, hardwired, or outdoor. A marketplace is fine for a plug-in infrared cabin if you confirm the exact model and who honors the warranty. Wherever you buy, check what the price includes.

The three kinds of seller

Seller type Example in our catalog Saunas listed there Typical products
Specialist dealer Select Saunas 19 Almost Heaven, Dundalk, SaunaLife, Finnmark, Golden Designs
Direct from the maker Sunlighten, Clearlight, Health Mate, Redwood Outdoors 6 Mostly infrared cabins, plus one barrel sauna
Marketplace Amazon 4 Lower-priced infrared cabins

The counts are from our own product data and cover only the 30 saunas we list. They aren’t a survey of the market.

Specialist dealers

A dealer carries several brands and sells the big, complicated products: barrel saunas, hybrids, anything with a 240V heater.

You get someone to call who knows the difference between a 6kW and an 8kW heater, and one place to compare brands. You give up a direct line to the factory. Warranty claims usually go through the brand, with the dealer in the middle.

Examples: the Almost Heaven Salem barrel sauna ($4,176) and the Finnmark FD-4 Trinity hybrid ($7,795) are both sold through Select Saunas.

Direct from the maker

Several infrared brands sell from their own sites. The Sunlighten Solo Dome ($1,999) and the Clearlight Premier IS-1 ($5,799) are sold this way.

You get the maker’s own support and warranty with nobody in between. You give up easy comparison. A brand’s site won’t tell you what its competitor charges.

Here’s what the spec sheet won’t tell you: some makers don’t publish a price at all. Two saunas in our catalog have no listed price. If a site asks you to request a quote, get it in writing with delivery included.

Marketplaces

Amazon lists plug-in infrared cabins such as the Dynamic Andora ($2,210.99).

You get familiar checkout and often the lowest sticker price. You give up certainty about who you are buying from. Confirm three things before you order:

  1. The listing shows the exact model number you researched.
  2. The seller is the brand or a dealer the brand authorizes.
  3. The return terms cover freight. A sauna ships on a pallet.

What to check with any seller

Run the numbers before you fall for the photos.

Is the heater included? Several outdoor saunas in our catalog list the heater as sold separately. The Dundalk Harmony Barrel is $5,977 without one.

What does delivery cover? Curbside delivery means a crate at the end of your driveway. The SaunaLife Ergo E7 listing gives a shipping weight of about 1,213 pounds and recommends professional delivery.

What is the warranty, and who honors it? Terms vary widely. The Almost Heaven Grandview lists a limited lifetime warranty. The Redwood Outdoors 6-person barrel lists 1 year on the structure.

What does it need from your house? A 240V circuit is an electrician’s visit on top of the purchase.

Local showrooms and “near me”

We don’t list local stores, so I can’t point you to one. If there is a showroom near you, it is worth a visit for one reason: you can sit in the cabin before you spend several thousand dollars. Ask the same four questions above.

My rule of thumb

Under $3,000 and it plugs into a wall outlet: a marketplace or the maker is fine. Over $4,000, outdoor, or hardwired: use a dealer or the maker, and talk to a person before you pay.

Bottom line: the seller matters most when something goes wrong. Pick the one that will answer the phone, confirm what the price includes, and get the delivery terms in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the best place to buy a home sauna?

It depends on the brand. Most traditional and barrel saunas in our catalog are sold through a specialist dealer, several infrared brands sell direct, and lower-priced infrared cabins are listed on Amazon.

Is it safe to buy a sauna on Amazon?

It can be, if the listing is the exact model and the seller is the brand or an authorized dealer. Confirm the model number, who handles the warranty, and how a crate that ships by freight gets returned.

Does the price include the heater?

Not always. Several outdoor saunas in our catalog list the heater as sold separately, so compare the total with a heater, not the cabin price alone.
