Red light panels come in sizes from a hardback book to a door. The right one depends on how much of you it has to cover.
This article compares three sizes by the numbers. For the wider category, start with the home wellness equipment buying guide.
Short answer: buy for the area you’ll treat most. A mid-size panel suits one body region. A taller panel costs less per square inch if you want more coverage.

From Joovv and Mito Red Light listings, checked September 2026. Area and price per square inch are my arithmetic from those figures.
What the extra size buys
Going from the 1000+ to the 1500+ adds 50% more panel for $300, which is 35% more money. You also add 5 lbs.
You get more of your body lit in one position with the taller panel. You give up some wall space, and you need a sturdier mount.
Irradiance: compare like with like
Irradiance is the light power reaching a given area, in mW/cm².
Here’s what the spec sheet won’t tell you. Mito publishes two figures for each panel at 6 inches: more than 165 mW/cm² on a professional meter and more than 66 on a consumer meter for the 1000+. For the 1500+ it’s more than 170 and more than 68.
Same panel, two numbers, depending on the meter. So when you compare brands, check which kind of meter each figure came from. Joovv lists more than 100 mW/cm² for the Mini 3.0 and doesn’t say which.
The two Mito panels are close on irradiance. The difference between them is area, not intensity.
Mounting and space
The 1000+ comes with an over-the-door hook and steel hanging cables. At 17 lbs, check the door. The 1500+ is 36 inches long and 22 lbs, so it needs a secure mounting point or a stand.
The Joovv Mini is 7 lbs and wall-mountable.
What the evidence says
Size is easy to measure. Benefit is harder. Cleveland Clinic says “there’s not enough evidence to support most uses” of red light therapy, and that at-home devices may be less powerful than those in a clinic.
It also says to shield your eyes. The 1000+ includes goggles.
Follow the session times in your panel’s manual. Our sources don’t give a dose by panel size.
How to choose
- One area, such as a knee or your face: a compact or mid-size panel.
- Torso or legs in one session: a 12 x 36 inch panel.
- Head to toe: more than one panel, or a modular kit.
My rule of thumb: if two panels have similar irradiance, buy on price per square inch and warranty.
Bottom line: the 1500+ is the better value per square inch here, and the 1000+ is enough for one region. Don’t pay for area you won’t stand in front of.
