Short answer: the Ice Barrel Step Stool is a 16” rotomolded step with a non-slip top and feet and a 300 lb weight capacity. It is made to help you into a tall barrel. We couldn’t verify a price, and fit with other brands’ tubs is unconfirmed.
Why do you need a step?
Run the numbers. The Ice Barrel 400 is 42” tall. Stepping over a 42” rim from the ground is not possible for most people without climbing. A 16” step leaves 26” to clear, which is about knee-to-thigh height. That is a manageable step over.
Getting out matters more than getting in. Your legs are cold and slow after a few minutes in 50°F water, and your feet are wet. A wide, grippy step at a known height is the difference between stepping down and half falling out.
Which tubs is it for?
It is designed and sold for Ice Barrel tubs. The lower Ice Barrel 300 is 30.5” tall and is built to be entered without a stool. The Ice Barrel 500 has built-in steps. So the 400 is the model that needs this most.
With another brand’s tub, measure the rim height and subtract 16”. If what is left is more than you can step over comfortably while holding the rim, you need a taller platform.
What does 300 lbs mean?
It is the stated weight capacity. Stepping down puts more load on a stool than standing still, so leave yourself a margin. If you are near the limit, look for a step rated higher.
Where should it go?
Put it on level, firm ground, against the barrel. On grass or gravel, set a paving slab under it so it can’t tip. Keep the top clear of ice melt and leaves.
What the listing leaves out

How it compares
It is the only entry step we list. Bottom line: if you own a 400, buy a step of some kind. See the Cold Plunge Accessories Guide.
