Integrated-chiller cold plunges hold the water cold and filtered for you, which is why they’re where most people who plunge several times a week end up. Prices run from about $7,000 to well over $10,000.
This comparison covers four we’d shortlist. For chillers versus ice, safety, and warranties in more depth, see the cold plunge buying guide.
Short answer: The Plunge Original has the strongest track record by reviews. The Nordic Wave Viking Premier is the value pick and also heats. The Renu Cold Stoic 2.0 has the longest warranty. The Viking XL is for users too tall for standard tubs.
At a glance
Ratings are the figures each brand publishes on its own site, not independent reviews.
The Plunge Original: Best Overall
The Plunge Original has the deepest review history of any cold plunge we’ve researched: 872 reviews at 4.8/5 on the manufacturer’s page. It cools to 37°F at 8–10°F an hour, holds 105 gallons, and includes ozone plus filtration with a 6-filter starter kit.
You give up warranty length. A 1-year limited warranty covers the whole unit, the shortest overall coverage here, and it needs a dedicated 120V/15A circuit.
Best for: buyers who weigh review volume and brand track record most.
Nordic Wave Viking Premier: Best Value
The Viking Premier is the lowest-priced of the four, and it heats to 104°F as well as cooling to 35°F. Setup takes about 15 minutes, per Nordic Wave. Its 4.9/5 rating across 492 reviews is shown across the Viking line, not for this model alone.
You give up published electrical specs (chiller horsepower and amperage aren’t listed) and chiller coverage beyond 1 year.
Best for: buyers who want hot and cold in one tub at the lowest price, and will confirm the power specs with Nordic Wave.
Renu Cold Stoic 2.0: Best Premium
The Cold Stoic 2.0 is the most expensive of the four, and it backs that with the strongest published warranty here: 5 years, residential use. Renu also rates its 0.25 HP chiller at 58 dB from about 3 feet, just under normal conversation, and lists 4 inches of foam insulation.
You give up the lowest temperature (it cools to 39°F rather than 35–37°F) and a heating mode.
Best for: buyers prioritizing warranty length and quieter, published-spec operation.
Nordic Wave Viking XL: Built for Taller Users
The Viking XL is Nordic Wave’s largest plunge: a 160-gallon tank rated for users over 7 feet tall, versus the Premier’s 95 gallons. It shares the Premier’s hot-and-cold range and quick setup.
You give up the same published specs as the Premier, plus a model-specific warranty term, which Nordic Wave’s page doesn’t state. Confirm all of it before ordering, especially with the extra weight of 160 gallons.
Best for: users who don’t fit a standard tub.
Which one should you buy?
- The strongest review track record: The Plunge Original.
- Hot and cold at the lowest price: Nordic Wave Viking Premier.
- The longest warranty and a published noise rating: Renu Cold Stoic 2.0.
- A tub for taller users: Nordic Wave Viking XL.
If you’d rather start with a simple tub and ice, the ice bath buying guide covers the lower-cost route.
Bottom line: the chiller’s warranty and the temperature you’ll use matter more than the coldest number on the box.
