Short answer: the SAS92300 is an analog gauge that shows sauna temperature and humidity in one light-wood housing. It needs no battery. Select Saunas lists it at $38.88.
Why measure both?
Temperature alone doesn’t tell you how a sauna feels. A dry room at 180°F is easy to sit in. Pour water on the stones and the humidity jumps, and the same 180°F feels much hotter. A hygrometer shows that change. After a few sessions you’ll know which combination you like, and you can repeat it.
It also tells you when the room is ready, so you aren’t guessing or opening the door to check.
Where should it go?
Heat rises, so the reading depends on height. A gauge near the ceiling can read far higher than the air at bench level. Mount it on a side wall at about head height when seated on the upper bench, away from the heater and not directly above it. That gives you the temperature you are sitting in.
The gauge is 240 mm wide, 130 mm tall, and 30 mm deep, which is about 9.4” x 5.1” x 1.2”. It weighs 0.2 kg, about 7 oz.
Analog or digital?
Analog gauges have no electronics to fail in the heat. They are also less precise, and a hygrometer needle can drift over the years. Read it as a guide, not a lab instrument. If you want to log sessions, you need a digital sensor rated for sauna temperatures.
Do you need one?
Infrared cabins usually have a digital temperature display on the control panel, and humidity matters less there. This gauge is for traditional saunas. Check whether your heater’s controller already shows the temperature.
What the listing leaves out
- The temperature and humidity ranges on the dial
- Whether the scale is in Fahrenheit, Celsius, or both
Ask the retailer about the scale before you order.
