Our Take on the Spirit Safety Rail (HSP3M)

By

Short answer: the HSP3M is a heat-treated birch and stainless steel rail that fits around the top of a Harvia Spirit SP60 or SP90 heater, for $233. It makes accidental contact with the heater less likely. It fits those two heaters only.

Who needs it?

Anyone with a Spirit heater and children, pets, or a small cabin where the bench is close to the heater. The stones and the top of an electric heater are the hottest things in the room. A rail gives a hand or a knee something to meet before it reaches them.

It reduces the risk. It doesn’t remove it, and it doesn’t replace supervising children in a sauna.

Will it fit your heater?

Only if your heater is a Harvia Spirit SP60 or SP90. Check the model plate on the heater. Some saunas we list offer a Spirit heater as an option, including the Almost Heaven Madison and the Almost Heaven Salem. If yours has the KIP heater, this rail is the wrong part.

The rail measures 21.5” wide, 17.7” deep, and 5.12” tall, and weighs 4.4 lbs. Stainless brackets attach it to the heater, and you set the height around the heater top. It adds a few inches around the heater, so check that it still clears the bench and the wall.

Why birch?

Heat-treated birch conducts heat poorly, so the surface stays touchable when the heater is hot. Metal guards get hot themselves.

Run the numbers

$233 is a lot for a wooden frame. Set it against the cost of the sauna, usually several thousand dollars, and the cost of one burn. For a household with small children, I’d treat it as part of the heater’s price.

What the listing leaves out

The price is the Select Saunas listing price for the HSP3M when we checked on October 9, 2026.

How it compares

It is the only heater guard we list. Bottom line: worth buying for a Spirit heater in a family sauna. Sauna Heater Guards: Safety With Kids and Pets covers other heaters and house rules.
