Most infrared cabins come in 1-person and 2-person versions, and the choice looks simple: how many people will use it? In practice, it’s also a question of floor space, power, and price.

This article covers what changes between the two sizes. For the rest of the buying decisions, start with the infrared sauna buying guide.

Short answer: a 1-person cabin needs about 3 by 3½ feet; a 2-person cabin about 4 by 4 feet or more. Size up if anyone else will use it even occasionally, as long as the room fits.

Size by model

Cabin Seats Exterior (W × D × H) Price (per listing, Oct. 1, 2026)
Sunlighten Signature I 1 37.8 × 39.8 × 77.7 in. $4,999 (Sunlighten)
Clearlight Premier IS-1 1 40 × 44 × 76 in. $5,799 (dealer)
Dynamic Barcelona 1–2 39 × 36 × 73 in. (+2 in. overhang) $3,499 (Golden Designs)
Dynamic Andora 2 47 × 42 × 75 in. $2,210.99 (Home Depot)
Sunlighten Signature II 2 50.9 × 45.9 × 77.7 in. quote only
Clearlight Sanctuary 2 2 51.75 × 47.75 × 77 in. quote only

What you gain with two seats

You get room for a partner, and in many 2-person cabins, room for one person to sit sideways or stretch out. The Sunlighten Signature II’s bench, for example, fits one person stretched out or two seated.

What you give up

Floor space is the main cost: roughly 1 to 1½ feet more in each direction. Power can change too. Some 2-person cabins move from a standard 15A plug to a 20A circuit, like the Clearlight Sanctuary 2’s NEMA 5-20P plug.

Price doesn’t follow size

Here’s what the spec sheet won’t tell you: brand matters more than size. The 2-person Dynamic Andora lists for less than half the price of the 1-person Clearlight Premier IS-1. Compare within a brand to see what the second seat costs.

Run the numbers on floor space

Here are the same cabins as floor area, which is easier to mark out with tape:

Cabin Seats Floor area Weight
Dynamic Barcelona 1–2 about 9.8 sq ft 250 lbs
Sunlighten Signature I 1 about 10.4 sq ft 428 lbs
Clearlight Premier IS-1 1 about 12.2 sq ft 325 lbs
Dynamic Andora 2 about 13.7 sq ft Not stated in our data
Sunlighten Signature II 2 about 16.2 sq ft 438–522 lbs by wood
Clearlight Sanctuary 2 2 about 17.2 sq ft 450 lbs

Floor area is our arithmetic from the listed exterior dimensions. Weights are from the listings.

The step from one seat to two costs about 5 to 6 sq ft within a brand. Across brands the picture changes: the Barcelona, sold for one or two people, takes less floor than either 1-person cabin.

Weight doesn’t follow seats either. The 1-person Signature I weighs almost as much as the 2-person Sanctuary 2. If the cabin is going upstairs, check the weight before the seat count.

Check the inside, not only the outside

A cabin sold for two is only comfortable for two if the bench is wide enough. The Barcelona’s interior is 36 inches wide, which is shoulder to shoulder for two adults. The Sanctuary 2’s bench is 46.5 inches wide.

Interior height varies as well: 67 inches in the Barcelona, 70.3 in the Signature I, and 71 in the Premier IS-1. You sit in a sauna, so all three work, but a tall person will duck on the way in.

Power for the smaller cabins

One seat doesn’t always mean a simpler plug. The Clearlight Premier IS-1 draws 1,370W on a standard 15A plug. The Sunlighten Signature I draws a similar 1,350W, and Sunlighten still specifies a dedicated 20A circuit for it. Read the power line for the exact model.

How to decide

My rule of thumb: if you’ll use it with someone else even once a month, and the room fits a 2-person cabin, go bigger. If it’s only for you and space is tight, a 1-person cabin heats up as intended and costs less to run.

To compare two 2-person cabins and a 1–2 person budget pick, see our infrared sauna comparison.

Bottom line: measure the room first. If two seats fit, they’re usually worth it.
