A cold plunge with a built-in chiller usually costs $7,000 or more. Below that, you mostly buy the tub and choose how to keep it cold: ice, or a chiller you add later.
This comparison covers five tubs under $6,000. Four are tubs alone and one comes with a chiller. For the chiller-included tubs above $6,000, see Best Cold Plunges of 2026.
Short answer: the Ice Barrel 500 is the lowest-priced and fits the tallest users. The Dundalk Polar holds the most water. The SaunaLife S1NC is the only one with a chiller in the box. The SaunaLife S1N and Dundalk Baltic are wooden tubs for ice now and a chiller later.
At a glance
Specs are from each seller’s listing. Prices and check dates are in the table below.
Ice Barrel 500: Best Value
The Ice Barrel 500 holds 94 gallons in an upright barrel with a built-in seat and steps. It fits users up to 6’9”, and Ice Barrel rates the barrel and lid at R-16. The warranty is limited lifetime coverage for material defects.
You give up a chiller. It has chiller-ready ports, but without one you are buying ice. Its price is Ice Barrel’s list price, and Amazon’s can differ.
Best for: a tall user who is fine starting with ice.
Dundalk Polar: Best Overall
The Polar is a long, low tub, 71” x 33” x 25”, holding 190 gallons: twice the Ice Barrel’s volume. You choose an aluminum or HDPE interior at order, inside a White Cedar skirt. The warranty is 5 years on parts, not labor.
You give up a chiller and a cover; both are separate purchases. 190 gallons is also a lot of ice to keep cold.
Best for: lying back rather than sitting upright, with room to spare.
SaunaLife S1NC: Best Premium
The S1NC is SaunaLife’s 124-gallon wooden tub packaged with its FDC-1A chiller/heater. SaunaLife rates the unit at 32.5 to 108°F, with ozone and a filter, on a standard 110-120V outlet. At $5,340 it is the only tub here that holds a set temperature without ice.
You give up a stated warranty term (SaunaLife links a separate PDF), and outdoors the chiller needs a weatherproof cover, per the listing.
Best for: one person who wants the same temperature every day without buying ice.
SaunaLife S1N
The S1N is the S1NC’s tub on its own: 124 gallons, a contoured fiberglass insert, and 3/4” NPT connections ready for a chiller. It arrives fully assembled with round stairs, and SaunaLife publishes the filled weight, 1,177 lbs.
The S1NC costs $2,850 more than the S1N, so that is the price of SaunaLife’s chiller in this package.
Best for: buying the tub now and the chiller later.
Dundalk Baltic
The Baltic is a cedar barrel with an HDPE liner, an inside step, and stainless steel bands, shipped assembled. It drains through a garden hose connection, and the warranty is 5 years on parts.
You give up published capacity: the listing doesn’t state water volume or interior size. Ask before you order if fit matters.
Best for: a cedar tub to match a barrel sauna.
Ice or chiller?
Every tub here but the S1NC needs ice or an added chiller. The cold plunge buying guide covers what to check before you buy.
Which one should you buy?
- The lowest price and the tallest fit: Ice Barrel 500.
- The most water: Dundalk Polar.
- A chiller in the box: SaunaLife S1NC.
- A wooden tub, chiller later: SaunaLife S1N.
- A cedar barrel to match a sauna: Dundalk Baltic.
Bottom line: under $6,000 you are mostly choosing a tub. Decide first whether you’ll live with ice, then pick the shell.
