Short answer: this is a 90 x 170 cm sauna towel in 100% cotton terrycloth at 600 GSM, priced at $56.80. It is big enough to sit on and wrap in. It is a good towel, and an expensive one compared with an ordinary bath sheet.
How big and how heavy?
In inches, it is about 35.4” x 66.9”. A standard bath towel is closer to 27” x 52”, so this is a bath sheet.
GSM means grams per square meter. The towel’s area is 1.53 square meters, so at 600 GSM it weighs about 918 grams, or roughly 2 lbs. Most everyday towels are 400 to 600 GSM. At 600 it is thick and absorbent, and it takes longer to dry on a rack.
Why do you need a towel in a sauna?
You sit on one. It keeps sweat off the bench, which protects the wood from stains and keeps the sauna clean for the next person. It also puts a layer between you and hot wood. In a shared sauna, a towel under you from seat to feet is the usual courtesy.
A towel 170 cm long covers the bench under you and still reaches your feet. A normal bath towel doesn’t.
How many do you need?
At least two per person: one to sit on and one to dry off after you shower. A thick towel used in a hot room needs washing after every session. For two people using the sauna three times a week, plan on four to six towels. At $56.80 each, that is $227 to $341.
That is the argument for mixing: one or two of these for sitting, and cheaper towels for drying.
How do you care for it?
Wash before first use. Skip fabric softener, which coats cotton fibers and reduces absorbency. The listing says it gets softer with washing.
