Our Take on the Bucket 4L Wooden (SAC10003)

By

Short answer: the Harvia 4L is a wooden sauna bucket with a removable plastic liner, priced at $31. The liner is the reason to buy it: it stops leaks and makes cleaning easy. A ladle is not included with this model.

How much is 4 liters?

Four liters is a little over 1 gallon. That is more than enough water for a long session with regular pours. Full, the water weighs about 8.8 lbs, and the bucket itself weighs 1.8 lbs, so you carry about 10.6 lbs. It measures about 11” tall and 10¼” across.

You don’t need to fill it. Half a bucket covers most sessions and is easier to carry into a small cabin.

Why does the liner matter?

An all-wood bucket relies on the staves swelling to stay watertight. If it dries out between sessions, it can leak until the wood swells again. A plastic liner holds the water whatever the wood is doing. You can also lift it out and rinse it in a sink, which keeps the water clean.

The trade-off is appearance. From above, you see plastic. From the bench, you see wood.

Don’t forget the ladle

This model (SAC10003) is the bucket only. Without a ladle you can’t pour safely, because your hand would be over the stones when the steam rises. Budget for a ladle with a long handle. Our data has no ladle price, so check with the seller.

What else is it for?

The listing mentions soaking a sauna whisk, a bundle of leafy birch twigs used in Finnish saunas. A bucket this size can hold one.

What the listing leaves out

Harvia doesn’t list a price on its own page. The $31 figure comes from Select Saunas. The wood species isn’t stated in our data.

How it compares

The Dundalk Cedar Bucket & Ladle is $119 with a ladle and handcrafted joinery. The Harvia stainless kit is $324 with a ladle and a thermo-hygrometer. Bottom line: this is the low-cost way to start, once you add a ladle. See the Sauna Accessories Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a special bucket for löyly?

A wood or heat-rated bucket paired with a long-handled ladle is the traditional choice and holds up better to repeated heat exposure than a generic container.

What accessories work with infrared cabins too?

Thermometers, backrests, and lighting accessories generally work across both infrared and traditional cabins; buckets and ladles are specific to traditional steam sessions.
